You always did go “above and beyond” in grad school
If you loved the smell of fresh school supplies, you probably fell in love with grad school.
Sure, there were challenging moments with your first internship. But you always had a community of classmates and professors that you could fall back on.
Now that you’re in practice for yourself, you find yourself actually missing the structure of classes.
Sure, you feel “good enough” working with your clients (most days). But there are some clients on your caseload dealing with health issues that leave you feeling lost.
What do you do when a client tells you they’re worried about not being able to work as their disease progresses?
How do you help a client who wants to quit going to medical appointments altogether and is “resistant” to any of your suggestions?
Or when a client tells you they don’t want to live anymore with the pain?
Nobody prepared you for how to react when your clients are grieving with a new disability, managing debilitating, chronic pain, or confronting a scary diagnosis.
You wish you could just walk down the hall to your supervisor's office like you used to in grad school to lay out your case, have your supervisor unravel and organize all of your thoughts, and walk out with a solution.
You thrived in weekly supervision - but now you’re ready for something more refined and specialized

Living with a chronic illness yourself? Learn tools to help you feel grounded in your own body as a therapist
When you work with clients who have managed years of chronic illness and/or chronic pain, it’s common for those clients to express feelings of hopelessness in the face of so many unknowns. As the empathic and intuitive therapist that you are, you might find yourself subconsciously picking up on the feelings of your clients. Without even knowing why, you might leave these sessions feeling drained, stuck, and hopeless.
And if you manage health issues for yourself? It’s even more important for you to land in a compassionate space like the Chronic Illness Cohort to stop your stress response before it even starts.
This group experience will allow you to remain grounded in your deep knowledge of medical trauma so that you can provide a safe space for clients to explore their illness and grief - without leaving you feeling burned.
You’ll have the space to create a concrete plan to prioritize self-care and sustain your career as a chronic illness therapist.

Hi, I’m Victoria Rodriguez!
As a Licensed Professional Counselor right outside of New Orleans, Lousiana, I specialize in helping teens and adults heal from medical trauma and feel safe in their bodies again.
After taking my research on vicarious medical trauma and provider burnout on the road to national and international nursing conferences, I saw how valuable community education and support could be for therapists. I am so excited to welcome you to the Chronic Illness Cohort so you can see in real time how much you’ll grow your clinical skills through specialized support.
Hi, I’m Destiny Davis!
Therapist, spouse, parent, but most importantly, fellow human. I've walked the path of chronic pain and illness, the frustration of endless appointments, and the sting of "normal" lab results that don't match your reality. My lived experience only compliments my Master’s in Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling, in which we learn the skills required to help clients gain, regain, or maintain employment despite living with a chronic disease or disability. I’m trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Year 2 of Somatic Experiencing, trauma, and disability-justice. I love helping my clients find joy in their relationships again, and I can’t wait to teach you in this new cohort!
